Filing for 501(c)(3) Status Is Confusing, Slow, and Expensive

Most people start a nonprofit because they have a mission — not because they love IRS paperwork. But one wrong field on Form 1023 can delay your approval for months or get your application rejected entirely.

  • Attorneys charge $3,000–$5,000+ for the same service
  • DIY filing services leave you guessing on critical legal language
  • The IRS rejects applications with incomplete or improperly worded descriptions
  • You need bylaws, conflict of interest policies, and dissolution statements — all written in IRS-approved format
  • One mistake can delay tax-exempt status by 3–12 months

Common Questions

How long does the whole process take?

State filing takes 10–12 business days. Form 1023-EZ approval is typically 2–4 weeks after that. Full Form 1023 can take 3–12 months. Most clients using Form 1023-EZ are fully approved within 6–8 weeks total.

Do I qualify for Form 1023-EZ (the shorter application)?

Most new nonprofits with projected annual gross receipts under $50,000 and total assets under $250,000 qualify for the streamlined 1023-EZ. We'll determine your eligibility on the kickoff call.

Is this only for Texas nonprofits?

We specialize in Texas formations (Articles of Incorporation with the TX Secretary of State). The IRS federal filing applies to all states. If you're outside Texas, we can discuss your specific situation on the call.

Why is this cheaper than hiring an attorney?

We've built every template, checklist, and document needed — refined over multiple successful filings. You get the same quality documents without billable-hour overhead. Attorney fees for this work typically run $3,000–$5,000+.

What if my application gets rejected?

Our documents are written in IRS-approved language based on successful filings. If the IRS has questions or requests additional information, we'll help you respond during your 60-day support window at no extra charge.
